Introvert’s Delight

I’ll have more to say about this one over the next few days, but for now, here’s my latest EP. It’s called Introvert’s Delight, and it’s heavily influenced by the music of Belle and Sebastian — as well as a bit of Herb Alpert and Burt Bacharach.

When I heard “Electronic Renaissance” by Belle & Sebastian, it immediately struck me as familiar, but I wasn’t sure why. Someone else had a song just like it, I kept thinking, but who? Turns out, the song I was thinking of is “Procession” by New Order. Here they are side-by-side:

Is it me, or do these songs sound remarkably similar?

I’m hoping to post a new song within the next day or so. In the meantime, here are some of the tracks that inspired it…

Musically, the track reminds me of “The High Road” by Broken Bells, especially the beat and some of the sound effects that I use:

Thematically, it reminds me of “Lord Anthony” by Belle and Sebastian:

And the chorus occurred to me while I was watching Stars perform “Trap Door” at Union Transfer a little wile back:

So if you can triangulate a song from these three, that’s pretty much what my new song is going to sound sound like.
